API Security

Have you ever questioned your API security? Many businesses do, but they don’t take action.

API stands for application-programming interface. It is basically the force behind all web-based tools or software. When a large, well-known company makes their API public they are allowing other software developers to use it and design their own products powered by it’s service.

Our friends at helpnetsecurity.com talked about API security on their blog.

According to the report, the majority of companies surveyed are running some form of an API management platform, either developed in-house or from a commercial provider. However, the security features included in these API management platforms are inconsistent, with many lacking basic rate limiting functionality. Also of note is the lack of responsibility for API security.

There is nearly an even split between those that give responsibility for API Security to their developers and those that allocate it to the IT security team.

API security is just one piece of a much larger puzzle to keeping your data and platforms secure. Read more about it here.
